Room 13 @ Stanley Avenue School
A fantastic group of Year 5 and 6 students learning alongside Mrs Haddock aka Mrs H. We are physically based at Stanley Avenue School, Te Aroha, New Zealand however this is what we call our fifth wall of the classroom - where we can share our learning with the world.

Signing off...
Well everyone, that is it for another Year in Room 13 at Stanley Avenue School. It has flown by and been such a great journey with the class.
We had exciting news - that got shared in the last day or two - We won the Bunnings Christmas Tree competition in Te Aroha - using recycled materials. They all looked amazing and no one tree was judged the particular winner - we were asked to drop one down. I'm thinking the shredded paper one and all the old school reports :)
Thanks to the class and the middle school team for the very emotional send off - I think every time I hear that Bryan Adams song I will tear up.
It is all about the people - He tangata, he tangata, he tangata. That is what I will miss the most.
Have a very Merry Christmas and Safe holiday, look out for each other next year and remember to #choosekind
Love Sandie H
Signing off for the last time as a teacher
PS Forgot to remind you -
Mrs H's Precept
"Do the right thing, at the right time, for the right reasons - even when no one is looking"
PPS - I'm hoping to share with you the response from Kobe.

O Christmas Tree, O Christmas Tree...
We have been busy constructing and creating in Room 13 this week. We have been making recycled Christmas trees.
Mrs H's favourite saying this week 'you need to crack an egg to make an omelete'
Some have been struggling in the 'learning pit' and having to work out possible solutions.
These will be displayed in the upcoming week in the front foyer of the school.
Photos will be appearing on here soon...

Our own Auggie
Wow, what a start to the week. Here are a few of the precept posters that have been made(and shared with me).
I had the 'Wonderful' opportunity to share about Kobe our kiwi 'Auggie'. Kobe is 7 1/2 years old, lives in Taranaki and also has Treacher Collins Syndrome.
See the medical chart below.
Kobe has just had a major operation and is recovering in Wellington. Our special task for Chapter Chat is to do something kind for Kobe - it didnt take long for two members of the class to come up with the idea of making another bear. We have four experts that were in Room 13 from making the 2017 'OK' Bear.
We've had a read of Kobe's blog. His mum is a teacher and he is home schooled - just like Auggie was.
Watch this space.

Digital Intelligence
Over the next 4-5 weeks Room 13 will be looking at an international programme called DQ World which helps to develop Digital Intelligence. Why is this important? - the world has evolved, technology has evolved and children of today need a range of tools in their toolkit to help them along the way. Linked with Netsafe NZ this online programme explores and develops a range of digital life skills.

It is often said that courage comes after you take the first step.
In this case, it only takes a Stormtrooper helmet and a supportive brother to #CreateCourage.
How did it make you feel? Leave a comment
Why did they all decide to wear a stormtrooper helmet?
