Olympic Week in Room 13

What an exciting week it has been in Room 13!  We've enjoyed sharing information about the Olympics, viewing some of the sports and really starting to delve into some research.  We've been talking about acknowledging the creator of any photos/drawings that are used on our blog.

Here is the week from our Room 13 bloggers!

This week Bruce Potter came to our school. Mr Potter is a famous book writer and illustrator.   When he was here he did some drawing we told him what to draw and he drew it. We ended up making it look like a weird pig giraffe thing wearing high heels and tutu. He showed us some of his books like Penny the Prolific pooing cow and doodle bug. Doddle bug is in Mr Potter's imagination. In the book doodle bug ends up in hard pitchers to find him in. Doddle bug is also
Mr Potter's doodle friend.

In Room 13 we have started making our own newspaper.  We have all been using the Literacy Challenge to make it but at the end, they will be different. There are lots of different names like: Noah’s News, Bethell’s Times, Wade's Weekly, Blake’s Lake, Thomas’s Tidings and Charli’s Competition. They are going to about the Rio Olympics.      By Thomas Gr

This week we watched the Women's Olympic Rugby Sevens finals, we did this because my cousin Terina Te Tamaki is in the NZ team.  NZ v Australia, the two favourite teams were in the final game. The NZ team had won all of their games so far, (and were hoping to keep it that way) but so had Aussie. It was a tough, loud, and rough game.  Australia ended up with gold, leaving NZ with silver. At least there's still a medal! ( Terina is the third one to the left.)

This week we have been learning about the Olympics and keeping track of the medals of New Zealand.   Go NZ!

We have been learning how to mind map, it’s sort of like a brainstorm.  A mind map is helping you remember and sort information using colours, as well as normal remembering, it has more lines coming off the 1 subject and it's fun for kids because it's learning but it makes it more fun because you get to colour.

On Monday, Wednesday and Friday, we do a course and 1 lap means a tick for our countries, 10 laps means a ring and the whole set of Olympic rings means were done and all trained! The track is 4 cones at each end of the court and 1 lap of the school and we start at cone 1 and zig zag your way to cone 8 then the lap around the school.  All of our selected countries are competing at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games!   By William

Cross country is coming up so we have been training for it.  We will be running the wetlands this year so as a practice every T day (Tuesdays & Thursdays)we run the wetlands.  It has been raining recently so it is muddy and some of us have been getting really muddy (boys!)

On Wednesday we joined up with Room 10 to start learning the Kids for Kids songs.  Kids for Kids is when we join with other schools and sing.  We are singing to raise money for World Vision.  We are going to Hamilton to perform live on stage. We can buy a disc of us singing and you can buy a t-shirts and other merchandise.   By Leah
