What amazing weather we had this week for our annual Cross Country.  The build up for this year has been trickier - however we were able to complete a few 'mud runs' over at the wetlands.  We were also able to train on the occasional fine day running our Olympic track between the cones.

Our bloggers this week have included information about NED, a new word building game and their recounts of cross country.

Last week NED came to our school We saw some cool yoyo tricks.  Channing told us all about NED’s morning it was funny!
NED stands for...
Never give up
Encourage others
Do your best!

Check out Ned's website : http://www.thenedshow.co.nz/

On Monday after the Ned show the Ned Yo-yo’s were for sale, there were 3 types of yo-yo’s.  There were the Ned yo - the Ned yo was a normal yo-yo but it glowed in the dark.  The Boomerang - it would spin down a bit then automatically came back up.  The excelerater-  would keep spinning until you tugged it up.

CROSS COUNTRY
As Mr Byers called for the 9 year old girls and boys, I went down to the start.  Amelia called our names  to make sure that we were all here.   Mr Byers got the boys to line up in front of a line then because he did not have a gun he said ready set clap.  They went off sprinting and they were only doing half of Boyd Park first and then a whole lap of Boyd Park. Next went the girls, instead of sprinting I paced myself in the race my legs were jelly and I came 4th from coming last.  I had a really bad cramp in my shoulder and a stitch under my ribs. - Charli

When Mr Spicer said the 9 year old's please come to the starting line, I could feel my nerves from head to toe, I had mutant butterflies flying around everywhere. Mr Byers said “GO!’, we were off like the wind.  I was just jogging to save my energy for the end.  Just half my way round Boyd Park I started to get puffed, I started taking deeper breaths, I was coming 2nd.  But then I was a quarter of our way to finishing so then I started sprinting and came in 1st. - Anna K

This week on Wednesday we had our school cross country, we were extremely lucky with the weather, nice & sunny (In the middle of winter). The day was pretty hectic so I’ll give you a bit of a hint as to what was going on with my own story. “Ok, our plans have changed a little bit, you’re going to run two laps of the wetlands!”said Mr Byers… “NO!” “just kidding!, ok GO!” “Now really marks, set, GO!”. We started running, I was in the middle of the pack, slowly gaining on people. Soon I'm in second place! But then, as I entered the wetlands, the clenching pain in my stomach. Stitch and at the very start of the race, I had to keep going the rest of the runners were still so close behind me.   But the pain keeps getting worse & worse & even worse, I'm halfway through, I didn’t have a choice but to walk, the pain was too much, but I couldn't stay walking, there were two runners close behind.  They were the only thing keeping me running soon I had to walk again, the pain was overwhelming, two people passed me and I wasn't going to let anymore pass without the secret password. Down the finish line in fourth place isn't bad, but I was just glad it was over. - Sofia

On Wednesday it was cross country there was an order that we had to race in.  It went like this first was the 5 and 6 year olds,  then the 9 year olds and it carried on. There I am on the grandstand watching the 5 and 6 year olds there are butterflies in my tummy, it's my turn with the 9 year olds . - Leah

‘Oh if that sun gets just gets a little bit hot I’m going to freak out’ I thought.  It’s cross country and the sun is screaming at us.
“Nine year olds to the starting line” called Mr Spicer.  ‘Ok,it’s my race I can do it!’.  Running down the stairs of the grandstand I go, then jogging towards the starting line.  Girls sat behind the boys, watching them start.  “Ok girls” said Mr B “ You see how the boys took off running at their full speed, they are going to tire out and when they do they will end up walking. - Riley
